About Jason Russell

For as long as I can remember, I’ve enjoyed writing. It started with short stories and grew into articles and opinion pieces in the school newspaper. This passion for communicating clearly and well—and, when warranted, with some flair—lead to a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations from Brigham Young University in 1996. After two years in Mexico, Mo. as the Director of Information and Publications at the Missouri Military Academy in Mexico, Mo., (exactly two hours from Busch Stadium) I joined the public relations team at Morinda, Inc. Since that time, I’ve been more involved in marketing communications, helping to shape and share the messages of Nu Skin Enterprises, Max International and most recently SAVI Health, to name a few. In 2007, I completed an MBA from the Marriott School of Management at Brigham Young University.

Fight The Weeds

Spring time means tuning up the lawn mower, digging out the pruning shears, and testing the sprinklers (at least in Utah, where we can’t rely on Mother Nature to water our yards).

I take a certain amount of pride in having a great-looking lawn, and achieving that without using one of those lawn care companies. As […]

SQL Consultant Braves Weather to Serve Client

Spring may be only weeks away, officially, but the weather is plenty chilly in North Dakota. And Fargo, North Dakota, is where Jared Kirkpatrick, our newest SQL consultant, finds himself this week.

People go to Fargo all the time. Don’t they? But for Jared, this trip has  involved some serious weather whiplash. When he departed his […]

2014 Iron Man: Randy Knight

Randy Knight, MCM and founder & president of SSG, has been a frequent participant at SQL happenings, primarily SQLSaturday events.

But what Randy did earlier this year was strong work: He spoke at nine straight SQLSaturday events and then followed that up with an appearance at the 2014 PASS Summit.

With a performance like that, Randy has earned […]

A new MVP on the team: TJay Belt recognized by Microsoft

Last week we recognized Jason Brimhall for being named a SQL Server MVP. This week, it’s TJay Belt’s turn. TJay is the third SSG consultant we would like to recognize for his achievement of this honor.

To reiterate our sentiment from last week,  when a consultant is busy with community ventures, there is seldom any recognition for […]

The Strategic Role of the DBA

I’m the non-technical marketing guy at SSG. In order to help the team actually market our services, I’ve had to educate myself a little…okay, a lot. I’m learning about MCMs, the utility of scripts, and where to find a SQL Saturday event anywhere in the world.

I’m also getting familiar with industry trends. Along the way […]

The DBA is Resurrected

Do a Google search for “the DBA” and one of the top auto-fill results will be “…is dead.” In recent months there has been a flurry of articles on the idea. If enough people blog about a subject, does that make it true?

We don’t think so.

This is the digital age and data is the coin of […]

SQLSaturday and SSG

A quick glance at our Events page shows that SQL Solutions Group is committed to supporting PASS (Professional Association for SQL Server) events, including regular involvement with SQLSaturdays around North America. We love these chances to meet, learn from, and interact with our industry colleagues.

For those of our team who frequently speak at SQLSaturday events […]
